Our Mission

We have set up new support groups; and with AVID and Refugee Action a Detainee Visitors Groups (DDVG) for Dover Immigration Removal Centre; and we initiated and continue to support a multi-agency Dover Festival for Refugee Week. We work to set up further support groups, give talks, help students and researchers, publish leaflets and respond to media requests on current Issues.
What is a refugee?
According to the Geneva Convention, a refugee is a person who is outside his or her country because of a well-founded fear of persecution there based on their race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group, and who cannot or does not want to return home.
What is an asylum seeker?
An asylum seeker is a person who has applied to be accepted as a refugee and is waiting for their claim to be processed. The UK, together with most countries in Europe and many others is a signatory to this Convention and it is important that we honour it.
